Electric 50cc Moped Scooter
The closest thing to a motorbike you can ride with a car license. The UBCO 2×2 has a sensitive throttle and requires skill and confidence to ride at 50km/h on the road.
Pedal Assist Bicycle
This is a bicycle with a little help up the hills. The RemiDemi. does not have a throttle and will only go as fast as you can pedal. Kids under 10 can ride as a passanger
BIKE QUESTIONS
-
It is a road registered vehicle like a 50cc scooter/vespa/moped but electric. Road registered means it has a number plate so you’re driving on the road with other traffic. This option is for customers with experience driving a moped (drivers licence) or someone who has a motorbike licence. If you are a capable driver of the UBCO 2×2 then this is a great way to see Magnetic Island.
-
Its exactly like riding a bicycle except when you pedal you can add as much assistance from the motor as required. This means you can get some help up those Maggie hills. There is no throttle you use the peddals and the + – to get more or less help. You still have to peddal to get moving. Have a look at our bike page for more info
ACCESSIBILITY
-
We recognise that accessibility means different things to different people and can include many types. Our hire vehicles are designed for riders who can independently control a standard bicycle or electric moped. For safety reasons, riders need to be licenced and able to operate safely so that you can have a fun and relaced day. Ask yourself the following questions if you are still unsure
-
Our pedal assist bicycles are best suited to people who are already comfortable and confident riding a bicycle.
Pedal Assist Bicycle
- Have I had recent cycling experience?
- Will I feel comfortable riding on the road when there is no footpath available
- Am I feeling fit and healthy enough to ride up hills (This is a pedal assist but you still need to pedal)
Electric Moped
- Do I have motorbike or moped experience?
- Have I used a throttle before (if only on an e-bike then the answer is NO)
- Am I strong and tall enough to handle the moped especially around corners and on hills
- Will I be comfortable riding at 50km/h with other traffic
- If you are thinking I will just go slow this is not a safe option when riding on the road with other traffic
- If you have only ridden pillion then this option is not for you
- If you have only ridden an e-bike or bike this is not a good option
-
We want you to have a great day on Maggie.
If you are hiring a moped, QLD law allows you to drive single seat with a driver’s license BUT
This does not mean that having a driver’s license automatically means you have the ability to ride safely. If considering hiring the moped option you must check, think and be confident that you have previous moped experience or a motorbike experience. For the pedal assist bicycle hire you must know how to ride a bike, have good balance, be able to ride confidently. Have you ridden a bike recently as an adult?
-
Our booking system allows you to book for your group. You will need to enter details for all riders.
DO NOT ASSUME that all of your friends and family have experience and can ride safely
In Aussie terms “she’ll be right” is not going to be alright, please ensure that all riders are competent and confident before booking -
Walking Here
If arriving by ferry, Magnetic Island Roaming is a short walk from the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal.
Parking
There is no parking directly in front of our business, as this area is a designated No Stopping Zone. Parking is available across the road.
Access to Our Location
Access to our business involves an uphill incline and is not completely smooth or level. Guests who have difficulty walking on uneven or sloped surfaces may find access challenging. If you prefer not to access the premises, there is a café conveniently located next door where friends or family can relax while a rider collects their bike.
Public Facilities
A public toilet is available across the road from our location.
Bicycle Hire
For safety reasons, riders must be able to independently and safely operate their chosen bicycle. Our pedal-assist electric bicycles reduce the physical effort required when cycling but please note you are still pedaling and require a good level of fitness. There is no throttle on a pedal assist bicycle. We encourage guests with questions about access or individual requirements to contact us before booking so we can provide clear information about the suitability of our experience.
